The Cynnig Cymraeg mark of recognition was awarded by the Welsh Language Commissioner to Creu Cymru in April 2026.

As an arts organisation supporting members across Wales, Creu Cymru is proud to champion and celebrate the Welsh language. Nothing defines Wales more uniquely than its language and culture, and as an organisation working closely with venues, companies, and artists who deliver their work bilingually or primarily through Welsh, it is essential that our own services reflect and respect that reality.

Our commitment to the Welsh language is shaped by our belief that the arts play a vital role in sustaining and growing a living language. We recognise the Welsh Government’s ambition to reach one million Welsh speakers by 2050, and we are determined that our work contributes meaningfully to that goal. Through supporting members with opportunities in Welsh, and by creating space for the language in all aspects of our activity, we aim to help ensure that Welsh remains an essential and thriving part of cultural life.

Why the Welsh Language Matters to Us

Welsh is at the heart of the communities we serve. Our members work bilingually every day, and we believe that audiences, artists, and partners should be able to engage with us in the language that feels natural to them. By embedding bilingualism in our working practices, we not only honour our sector’s needs but strengthen access, representation, and equality for Welsh speakers everywhere.

Our Cynnig Cymraeg Pledges

To ensure we are upholding our commitment to the language, we have set out the following pledges:

Bilingual Communications - All information published on our website and social media channels will be available in Welsh and English, with neither language treated less favourably.

Events & Meetings - We will provide translation services at major events, including our Annual Conference and Hynt Symposium, and at least 50% of meetings.

Supporting Cymraeg 2050 - We will contribute to the target of reaching one million Welsh speakers by 2050 by investing in innovative, ambitious projects delivered through the medium of Welsh.

Bilingual Customer - Service Within our small team of three, we will maintain at least one fluent Welsh speaker and one active learner, ensuring we can respond to members and the public in their preferred language.

Annual Conference - Provision All conference materials will be prepared bilingually, with Welsh speakers present and visible throughout the event.

These pledges build on our existing Welsh Language Policy and reflect our long-term intention to develop, promote, and celebrate Welsh across everything we do. We will continue to review and strengthen our approach, working closely with our members, partners, and the wider arts sector to ensure that bilingualism remains central to our mission.
